FDA Approves Glas G2 Vape With Age-Lock Technology

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized six new electronic cigarette products from Glas Inc. — five e-liquid pods and one rechargeable device — finding them Appropriate for the Protection of the Public Health (APPH), according to a Director's Summary released by the agency.

The Glas G2 Pod-Based Vaping System consists of a rechargeable power unit that works exclusively with pre-filled e-liquid pods containing 50 mg/mL of nicotine. The pods come in tobacco, blueberry, mango, and two menthol flavors.

A standout feature of the device is its built-in age-restriction technology. The rechargeable device requires users to verify that they are 21 or older through a smartphone app before the device can be activated — a measure the FDA said was central to its authorization decision.

"The FDA concluded that the device access restrictions sufficiently mitigate the risk to youth," the agency's summary stated, noting that the age-verification requirement allowed flavored products — including blueberry, mango, and menthol — to be authorized without needing to demonstrate an added adult benefit beyond what tobacco-flavored products already offer.

The FDA said scientific evaluation found the five e-liquid pods demonstrated sufficient potential benefit to adults who smoke combusted cigarettes and completely switch to the new products, or significantly reduce their smoking of combusted cigarettes to outweigh the risks.

The authorization comes with specific marketing restrictions and ongoing monitoring requirements. The FDA stressed that marketing authorization does not mean the products are safe — only that their benefits to public health outweigh their risks when all factors are considered.
